Twist N Turns is Kolkata's most trusted name in professional dance education. Founded in 2005 by Tapash Das, TNT now operates **8 studios across the city**, teaches **every major dance and fitness form under one brand**, and has shaped the journey of thousands of dancers — from three-year-olds learning their first plié to working adults rediscovering movement through Zumba or Salsa.

## Why families choose Twist N Turns

- **21+ years of continuous operation** — one of the longest-running professional dance academies in Eastern India.
- **8 studios across Kolkata** — Salt Lake, Ballygunge, Dum Dum Park, Ruby, New Alipore, New Town (AA1 and AA2), and Madhyamgram.
- **Specialist instructors, not generalists** — Ballet is taught by Ballet-trained faculty, Kathak by Kathak gurus, Hip Hop by working choreographers. No one rotates across forms.
- **Structured age-pathways** — dedicated syllabi for Toddlers, Kids, Pre-Teens, Teens, and Adults.
- **ISO 9001:2015 certified brand** with international tie-ups including the India International Dance Institute.
- **Recitals, workshops, and exams** — students get real stage time every year, not just classroom drills.
- **A genuine community** — families often span two generations of TNT students.

## Who we serve

- **Toddlers (3 to 5)** — Creative Movement builds rhythm, balance, and musicality in a joyful, non-intimidating environment.
- **Kids (6 to 9)** — foundation training in the student's chosen form with age-appropriate pacing.
- **Pre-Teens and Teens** — technique-heavy streams with choreography, stage craft, and exam preparation.
- **Adults** — drop-in and regular batches across Zumba, Salsa, Bollywood, Belly Dance, Contemporary, and classical forms, designed around busy professional schedules.

## How we teach

Dance at its best is art — a body moving in rhythm to music. At its peak, it demands athletic strength, stamina, and endurance. At its most basic, it is one of the most effective stress-busters ever invented, combining physical exercise with emotional expression. The Twist N Turns curriculum honours all three dimensions: **craft, fitness, and expression**.

Classes follow the school calendar in two semesters. New batches form at the start of summer and again at the new session in mid-to-late March. The first semester lays down technique and begins recital choreography — which is why students are admitted at the start of a session, not mid-way through, so the cohort progresses together.

> "Thank you for your interest in Twist N Turns. Our studios have a relaxed, fun-filled atmosphere while also promoting a positive learning environment. Classes are grouped primarily by age, but instructors have the flexibility to move students by skill level so that everyone is learning at a pace that suits them. We want students to have fun and be with their friends as much as possible, but we also want the class skill level to be balanced so nobody feels left behind or held back.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### When was Twist N Turns founded and how large is it today?

Twist N Turns was founded in 2005 by Tapash Das. The academy today operates 8 studios across Kolkata — Salt Lake, Ballygunge, Dum Dum Park, Ruby, New Alipore, New Town (AA1 and AA2/Rajarhat), and Madhyamgram — with a teaching faculty of over 100 certified instructors and thousands of active students from toddlers to adults.

### What dance styles does Twist N Turns teach?

TNT offers Ballet, Hip Hop, Bollywood, Jazz, Contemporary, Salsa, Bachata, Belly Dance, Zumba, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Couple Dance, Creative Movement, HIIT, Yoga, and Pilates. Each form is taught by an instructor who specialises in that form — not a single teacher rotating across styles.

### What age groups do classes cater to?

Classes are structured by age and ability: Toddlers (3 to 5) through Creative Movement, Kids (6 to 9), Pre-Teens (9 to 12), Teens (13 to 17), and Adult batches. Every age group has its own syllabus, pace, and peer cohort so nobody is placed in a class that is too fast or too slow.

### Who is Tapash Das, the founder?

Tapash Das founded TNT in 2005. He trained in Jazz, Hip Hop, and Contemporary at institutions including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, is a certified Zumba instructor and trained Salsa instructor, and has choreographed for Bollywood productions. He continues to lead the academy's vision and still teaches senior batches.

### How are classes structured through the year?

The academic year runs as two semesters aligned with the school calendar. New batches form in early summer and again at the new session in mid-to-late March. Recital preparation begins in the first semester, which is why new students are not admitted mid-semester — continuity of choreography matters.

### Is a trial class available before enrolling?

Yes. TNT offers a free trial class at most studios so students can meet the instructor, see the space, and experience the form before committing. Trials can be booked on the website or by calling 98310 18015.

### Are the studios certified or accredited?

Yes. Twist N Turns is an ISO 9001:2015 certified dance education brand. Several instructors hold international certifications from bodies including Zumba (ZIN), Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), and various classical gurukuls for Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and Odissi.

### How do I find the nearest TNT studio and enrol?
