## Ballet Classes in Kolkata — A Graceful Start for Your Child

Searching for **ballet classes near me** in Kolkata? You're in the right place. Twist N Turns is one of the very few studios in the city that runs a proper, structured ballet programme for children — with real technique, real trained teachers, and a real stage at the end of it.

We welcome children aged **4 to 8 years** into ballet. Little ones aged **3 to 5** can start with Creative Movement, our playful pre-ballet programme that builds the foundation before formal training begins. Whether your child is taking their very first plié or already dreaming of a full performance, we meet them where they are.

## What is Ballet, Really?

Ballet is the original language of dance — a blend of graceful movement, controlled strength, musicality, and storytelling. It's where most serious dancers begin, because it teaches posture, discipline, coordination, and stage presence in a way no other form quite matches.

For a young child, ballet isn't just about tutus and pirouettes. It's about learning how their own body works, building confidence on a stage, and developing the kind of focus that pays off far beyond the studio.

## How a Twist N Turns Ballet Class is Structured

Every ballet class runs for **one hour** and is built around a three-part structure refined over two decades of teaching:

1. **Body Conditioning — 20 minutes.** Stretching, light cardio, core and leg strength. Ballet asks a lot of small bodies, and we prepare them for it properly.
2. **Technique & Routine — 20 minutes.** Classical ballet vocabulary — positions, barre work, turnout, balance, coordination — taught age-appropriately and never rushed.
3. **Choreography — 20 minutes.** Putting it all together into a routine, so each term ends with something your child can actually perform.

## Starting Young? Begin with Creative Movement

If your child is **under 5**, Creative Movement is the right place to start. Think of it as pre-ballet — a playful, music-rich class designed to build the physical and emotional foundation that ballet will later need.

In Creative Movement we focus on:

- **Body awareness** — how to move, stop, balance, and sense space.
- **Strength and conditioning** — age-appropriate, never forced.
- **Musicality** — matching movement to rhythm.
- **Expression** — because dance is also about feeling, not just form.
- **Confidence on the floor** — being happy in a group, following instruction, enjoying movement.

Most Creative Movement children transition naturally into the Beginners ballet batch between ages 4 and 5. Learn more on our [Creative Movement page](https://twistnturns.in/classes-forms/creative-movement-kids-3-5-to-5yrs.html).

## Admissions — How to Enrol

Admissions are accepted **throughout the year**, though our four formal terms begin in January, April, July, and October.

Visit Ballygunge or New Town AA1, fill out the application form at the front desk, and our team guides you through the next steps. For full details on documents and fees, refer to our [Admission Process & Guidelines](https://twistnturns.in/admission-process-and-guidelines.html).

---

## Class Rules & Etiquette

A few firm but fair expectations keep our classes joyful *and* productive:

- **80% attendance** is mandatory — ballet is cumulative and gaps compound.
- **Uniform** is required for every class, no exceptions.
- Students are expected to follow the **Twist N Turns Dance Etiquette** guidelines shared at admission.

---

## Certification

At the end of each course, students appear for an **internal performance examination**. Those who have attended a minimum of **39 classes** and maintained their attendance receive a Twist N Turns ballet certificate — a real record of your child's work.

Based on examination performance, students are promoted to Improvers or Advanced, or retained for another term to consolidate technique. We never rush a child up a level they aren't ready for.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What age can my child start ballet at Twist N Turns?

Ballet is open to children aged 4–8 years across our two ballet studios. The Beginners batch at Ballygunge (Friday) and New Town AA1 (Friday) accepts ages 4–7. The Beginners batch at Ballygunge (Friday 4:30–5:30 PM) accepts ages 6–8. If your child is under 5, Creative Movement is the natural starting point — it's a playful pre-ballet class running at all eight studios.

### Where are ballet classes held in Kolkata?

Ballet runs at two locations — Ballygunge and New Town AA1. Ballygunge offers three batches (Saturday morning and two Friday slots). New Town AA1 runs on Friday evenings. Creative Movement (pre-ballet, ages 3–5) is available at all eight Twist N Turns studios across Kolkata.

### What is the latest ballet class schedule?

Ballygunge: Saturday 9:45–10:45 AM (full — waitlist only), Friday 4:30–5:30 PM (Beginners, ages 6–8, seats open), Saturday 10:45–11:45 AM + Friday 5:30–6:30 PM (Improvers, twice-weekly, 1 seat). New Town AA1: Friday 6–7 PM (Beginners, ages 4–7, 7 seats open). Call 98310 18015 to confirm and reserve.

### How is a one-hour ballet class structured?

Every 60-minute class is split into three 20-minute blocks: body conditioning (stretching, cardio, strength), ballet technique and routine, and choreography practice. This balance builds fitness, artistry, and discipline together.

### When do new ballet batches start?

Admissions are accepted year-round, but new terms begin four times a year — Winter (January), Summer (April), Rainy (July), and Autumn (October). You can book a trial class anytime without waiting for a new term.

### Is there a certificate at the end of the course?

Yes. Students who attend at least 39 classes and maintain 80% attendance qualify for an internal performance examination, after which a Twist N Turns ballet certificate is awarded. Top performers move to Improvers or Advanced batches; others may repeat a term to solidify technique.

### What do I need to apply?

Visit Ballygunge or New Town AA1 and fill out the application form at the front desk. For the full list of required documents and fee details, see our Admission Process & Guidelines page.

### What should my child wear to ballet class?

Students must attend in the Twist N Turns ballet uniform and follow our dance etiquette guidelines. Full uniform details are shared at the time of admission.

### My child is 3 — is it too early for ballet?

Not at all — it's just too early for formal ballet technique. We recommend Creative Movement (ages 3–5), which is specifically designed as a pre-ballet programme. It builds rhythm, body awareness, posture, and confidence in a playful, music-rich setting. Most Creative Movement children transition naturally into ballet at age 4–5.

### Can a child join mid-term?

Yes. We accept admissions throughout the year. However, batch capacity is limited — especially at Ballygunge — so it's best to call ahead and check availability before visiting the studio. The Saturday morning batch at Ballygunge is currently full.
