Sudeshna is an internationally certified oriental dancer, belly dancing for over 7 years now. She belongs to the first generation of belly dancers of Kolkata.

Belly dance is more than steps and hip movements — it is a conversation with your own body, a celebration of femininity, and a connection to one of the world’s oldest dance traditions. Every class I teach carries that philosophy, because I want my students to experience what I felt when I first truly understood this art.

Kolkata is building a beautiful bellydance community, and I am proud to be part of that story alongside Twist N Turns.

Her recent tour to Egypt, the motherland of oriental dance has enriched her knowledge about its rich culture and heritage. Through Laylat Raqs she aims to reach out to the Kolkata crowd and debunk theories about bellydance, thereby representing its culture and flavour in the truest form. She has also been part of various national and international belly dance festivals like the Cairo Budapest Festival in Hungary, and Maya in Goa, India to name a few.

Sudeshna founded Laylat Raqs, the first ever Bellydance Troupe of Kolkata in the year 2022 and since then has been successfully organising oriental dance events like Haflas and workshops in the city of Joy.

She has been truly instrumental in building and strengthening the bellydance community of Kolkata. Among her various other accolades, she has recently organized a Unity Hafla ( a word for Party in Arabic ) for all the community bellydancers of Kolkata in collaboration with some legendary Bellydance teachers and master teachers from across India. This conceptual gathering is designed to foster connections, offer support, and strengthen the Bellydance community.
