If your child is three, four or five and loves music, bouncing around the living room or copying every step in a cartoon, a toddler dance class can be a joyful first activity outside home. It is also normal to wonder: Is my child old enough? Will they cry when I leave? What do they actually do for an hour?

This guide walks through exactly that — who the class is for, what happens in the first session, what to wear and what it costs — so you can walk in on day one knowing what to expect. At Twist N Turns, toddler classes are called Creative Movement: a music-led, play-based class for ages 3 to 5, taught in small groups. The trial class is free (a ₹100 booking fee confirms your slot and is adjusted against your first month’s fees).

Is Your 3- or 4-Year-Old Ready for a Dance Class?

There is no audition, no experience needed and no “right” personality. A child is usually ready for a Creative Movement class if they:

  • Are potty-trained, so a class of about an hour is comfortable.
  • Can follow simple instructions, such as “stand in a circle” or “hop like a frog”.
  • Are comfortable saying goodbye to a parent at the classroom door.

Shy, wriggly, loud or quiet — all are welcome. It is common for children to watch for a little while before joining in, and that is perfectly fine. If you are not sure, a free trial class is the simplest way to find out, with no commitment.

About age: the programme is designed for ages 3 to 5. Current batches at our studios are listed for ages 4–6, so if your child is just turning three, call us and we will confirm the best fit. We do not currently run a class for 2-year-olds, or a baby or parent-and-child class.

What Actually Happens in the First Class

Every Creative Movement class runs for about an hour, split into three parts. Young children do best when the shape of the class is the same every week:

  1. Warm-up and body conditioning (about 20 minutes). Gentle stretching and light movement that wakes up the body and the brain.
  2. Movement technique and a simple routine (about 20 minutes). Posture, balance, basic movement vocabulary and short patterns the group learns together.
  3. Choreography and creative play (about 20 minutes). The little routine comes together, and children get free, imaginative time to move in their own way. This is where “creative” really shows up.

Your child’s first visit usually feels like this: you arrive 5–10 minutes early, your child meets the teacher and sees the room, you say a cheerful goodbye at the door, and the class begins with the warm-up. Classes are built around music and play, so there is no pressure to get steps “right”.

What to Wear and Bring

  • Clothes: a Twist N Turns uniform is worn to every regular class (details are shared at admission). For a trial, comfortable stretchy clothes are fine.
  • Water bottle — marked with your child’s name.
  • Hair tied back and no jewellery, so small dancers can move freely and safely.
  • Arrive 5–10 minutes early. Late arrivals disrupt the warm-up for the whole group.

Tips for a Happy First Day

  • Talk about it beforehand in simple, positive words: “You will dance to music and play games with a new teacher.”
  • Keep the goodbye short and warm. Long goodbyes make it harder for little ones. A quick hug, a cheerful wave and a calm exit work best.
  • Let your child go at their own pace. Watching for the first ten minutes is fine.
  • Do not worry about the steps. At this age, listening, balance, rhythm and enjoying the group are the real goals.
  • Ask the teacher after class how it went and what to expect next time.

Which Toddler Class Is Right? Creative Movement, Ballet or Something Else

For most three- and four-year-olds, Creative Movement is the best starting point — it is play-based and pre-ballet, with no formal technique. Children usually move into a Ballet or style class around age 5 or 6. A few studios also run other toddler batches:

Our Ruby studio has no toddler batches running right now. Toddler groups are small, and the busier studios, especially Salt Lake, can be full — call 9831018015 and we will tell you the next opening or suggest another day or studio. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the right age to start dance classes?

Our toddler programme, Creative Movement, is designed for children aged 3 to 5. It is structured play with music, not formal technique, so a 3- or 4-year-old does not need any previous dance experience. Current batches at our studios are listed for ages 4–6, so if your child is just turning 3, call 9831018015 and we will confirm the best batch.

Is my 3-year-old ready for a dance class?

A child is usually ready if they are potty-trained, can follow simple instructions and are comfortable saying goodbye to a parent at the classroom door. They do not need to be confident or outgoing — many children are shy at the start. If you are unsure, a trial class is the easiest way to find out.

Do you take 2-year-olds, or run baby or parent-and-child dance classes?

Our toddler programme is for children aged 3 to 5, with the child attending on their own with a teacher. We do not list a baby or parent-and-child class on our timetable, so we do not currently run a class for 2-year-olds.

What happens in a toddler dance class?

Each Creative Movement class runs for about an hour in three parts: roughly 20 minutes of warm-up and body conditioning, 20 minutes of movement technique and a simple routine, and 20 minutes of choreography and free creative play. The tone is playful but the structure is the same every week, which young children find reassuring.

Can parents stay and watch the class?

We ask parents to drop their child at the classroom door. Young children settle much better without an audience at the window. Arrive 5–10 minutes early so your child can settle before the warm-up begins.

What should my child wear and bring?

A simple Twist N Turns uniform is worn to every class (details are shared at admission). For a trial, comfortable stretchy clothes are fine. Please bring a water bottle, tie hair back and avoid jewellery so your child can move freely and safely.

How often do toddlers have classes?

Most toddler batches meet once or twice a week for an hour, for example a weekday pair such as Tuesday and Thursday or a weekend pair such as Saturday and Sunday. The exact days and times differ by studio — see the studio page for the live timetable.

How much do toddler dance classes cost?

Fees are charged every 4 weeks and depend on how many days a week your child attends, not on the style: ₹1,999 for once a week, ₹2,999 for twice a week and ₹3,499 for three times a week. There is a one-time enrolment fee of ₹1,770 (₹1,500 + 18% GST) on a 4-week plan (₹885 on a 12-week plan, waived on 24 weeks). The fee calculator gives the exact amount. At Madhyamgram the one-time enrolment fee is ₹590 (₹500 + 18% GST).

Can my child try a class before we enrol?

Yes. The trial class itself is free. A ₹100 booking fee confirms your slot; it is non-refundable but adjusted against your first month’s fees if you enrol. Book on our free trial page or call 9831018015.

When do new terms start?

Admissions are accepted throughout the year, and formal terms begin in January, April, July and October. Joining at the start of a term lets your child begin with the whole group, but you can join mid-term too.
