Dance brings together movement, music and good company — and it is never too late to start. At Twist N Turns, many adult students walk in with no dance experience at all, and our beginner-friendly Bollywood, fitness and yoga batches are paced so you can learn comfortably, at your own speed.

This guide is for anyone in their 50s, 60s or beyond — or choosing a class for a parent — who wants to know which batches suit older adults, where and when they run, what the first class feels like and what it costs. Your trial class is free (a ₹100 booking fee confirms your slot and is adjusted against your first month’s fees).

Choosing a Style

  • Bollywood and Bollywood Classic — music you already know, simple counts and a friendly pace. The easiest and most social place to start.
  • Bollywood Fitness — a low-impact, basic-level Bollywood fitness batch at Madhyamgram, designed for the 50+ age group.
  • Yoga — slower, stretch-led and calm; a good partner to a dance class, or a first step if you want to ease in.
  • Zumba — higher energy. Choose it if you are already comfortable with brisk movement; you can always keep the moves smaller.

If you are unsure, start with a Bollywood batch. It is the most forgiving format for a first-timer.

What Your First Class Feels Like

Adult morning fitness class at Twist N Turns

Your first class is not a test — nobody expects you to know the steps. A typical beginner-friendly class follows this shape:

  1. Warm-up — gentle mobility and rhythm to loosen the body.
  2. Step breakdown — the instructor teaches a small section slowly.
  3. Repetition — the same short movement repeats until it feels familiar.
  4. Music practice — the class tries the section to the song.
  5. Cool-down — a light stretch or a closing run-through.

If you miss a step, you are doing the normal beginner thing. The real progress is coming back for the next class.

Comfort and Safety Tips

  • Talk to your doctor first if you have a heart, blood-pressure, joint or balance condition. This page is not medical advice.
  • Tell the instructor before class about anything they should know — a sore knee, a recent surgery, or simply that you are nervous.
  • Move within your comfort. You can make movements smaller, slow down, or rest at any time.
  • Wear supportive, non-slip shoes and comfortable stretchy clothes.
  • Bring water and take sips between sections.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early so you can settle in and meet the instructor.

Common Worries

“I have never danced.” Most adult beginners haven’t. Coordination is trained, not inborn.

“Everyone will be younger.” Some batches skew younger and some older. Tell us your age group and comfort level and we will guide you to the right room.

“I am not fit enough.” Fitness improves by doing the class. Start with a gentler batch such as Bollywood or yoga.

“I will forget the steps.” Steps are broken into small counts. You do not need to learn a whole song in one day.

“I only want exercise, not a stage.” That is completely fine. Performing is optional.

Fees and Trial

We do not list a separate senior rate — fees are the same for all ages. They are charged every 4 weeks and depend on how many days a week you attend:

FrequencyCourse fee (per 4 weeks)
Once a week₹1,999
Twice a week₹2,999

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it too late to start learning to dance at 60?

No. Many of our adult students start with no dance experience, and batches are paced for beginners — steps are broken into small counts and repeated until they feel comfortable. You do not need to be fit or flexible to begin. If you have a health condition, check with your doctor first and tell the instructor before your first class.

Which dance classes suit seniors at Twist N Turns?

The best starting points are beginner and all-level Bollywood and Bollywood fitness batches, and Yoga. Our Madhyamgram Bollywood Fitness batch is designed specifically for the 50+ age group and is low-impact. Current batches list ages up to 60 at Dum Dum Park, Rajarhat–New Town (AA2), Madhyamgram and New Alipore. Zumba batches at New Alipore list ages 20–50. Call 9831018015 and we will point you to the gentlest batch near you.

Are there morning or daytime classes for seniors?

Yes. Rajarhat–New Town (AA2) runs a weekday late-morning Bollywood batch (listed for ages 31–60), New Alipore runs Yoga on weekday mornings and Saturday morning (listed for ages 17–60), and Dum Dum Park runs a Sunday-morning Bollywood Classic batch (listed for ages 25–60). Check the studio page for the current timings.

Do you have chair-based or seated dance classes?

We do not currently list a chair-based or seated class on our timetable. Our Bollywood, fitness and yoga batches are standing classes paced for beginners. If you need a gentler option, call 9831018015 and tell us what you can and cannot do — we will suggest the most suitable batch.

I have knee, back or blood-pressure problems. Can I still join?

Many people with common aches join dance classes, but this is a decision for you and your doctor. Please check with your doctor first, tell the instructor about any condition before the class, and move within your comfort — you can always skip a step, slow down or rest. Nothing on this page is medical advice.

What is the age limit for your classes?

Each batch lists a target age range, and the ranges for the batches above go up to 60. These are guides, not strict rules. If you are older than the listed range, call 9831018015 and we will tell you whether the batch is a good fit before you pay anything.

How much do dance classes cost for seniors?

We do not list a separate senior rate — fees are the same for all ages and depend on how many days a week you attend: ₹1,999 per 4 weeks for once a week, ₹2,999 for twice a week and ₹3,499 for three times a week. There is a one-time enrolment fee of ₹1,770 (₹1,500 + 18% GST) on a 4-week plan (₹885 on a 12-week plan, waived on 24 weeks). The fee calculator gives the exact amount. At Madhyamgram the one-time enrolment fee is ₹590 (₹500 + 18% GST).

Can I try a class before I join?

Yes. The trial class itself is free. A ₹100 booking fee confirms your slot; it is non-refundable but adjusted against your first month’s fees if you enrol. Book on our free trial page or call 9831018015. If you would like to talk through your comfort level first, call before you book.

Will I be the oldest person in the class?

Some batches skew younger and some skew older. Tell us your age group, preferred studio and comfort level when you call, and the team will guide you to the room where you will feel most at ease.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothes and supportive, non-slip shoes (or clean socks if your instructor prefers). Bring a water bottle and a small towel. Arrive 10 minutes early for your first class so you can settle in and meet the instructor.
