Antara’s Journey — From Contemporary to Ballet

Antara Bose did not arrive at Ballet via the usual route. She began her dance life as a Contemporary dancer — building expressive, free-form movement vocabulary before one encounter with Classical Ballet changed the direction of everything.

What she found in Ballet was not constraint, but precision — a language so exacting and so beautiful that it demanded her complete commitment. Since that turning point, Antara has pursued Classical Ballet with an intensity that has taken her training far beyond Kolkata: advancing under instructors from Delhi and Pune before reaching her current level under Tamara Vile of the Association of Russian Ballet and Theatre Arts, UK.

The Vaganova Method — What It Means

The Vaganova Method is one of the world’s most respected systems of Classical Ballet pedagogy. Developed by Russian ballerina and master teacher Agrippina Vaganova, it forms the foundation of the Russian Ballet tradition and is characterised by its systematic, anatomically grounded approach to technique — building from first principles, step by step, without shortcuts.

Antara follows the Vaganova Method in all her teaching. She has completed Classical Ballet up to Grade 6 under the GQAL examination board and is currently pursuing her Associate Teacher Training certification — anchoring her teaching practice in the formal Vaganova pedagogical lineage.

A Distinction Worth Noting

Antara is currently the only Ballet instructor in Kolkata teaching the Classical Ballet syllabus using the Vaganova Method. This is not a small distinction.
