Srijeeta’s Story
Srijeeta Mondal started Bharatanatyam at age four. It was her mother who enrolled her in those first classes — a decision that set the direction of her life before she was old enough to understand what that meant.
The formal training deepened in 2011, when she joined the Kalamandalam Dance Institute and began studying under Dr. Thankumunni Kutty, a respected guru in the Indian Bharatanatyam world. The years that followed were intensive: technique, expression, rhythm, storytelling through mudras and footwork, and the long discipline of classical training. Over thirteen years, she immersed herself in the form completely.
Along the way she competed, won, led choreography for college groups, and began teaching a small group of students from home — the first steps towards a teaching career she was not yet fully naming.
A New Chapter — Hip Hop at Twist N Turns
In 2022, Srijeeta joined Twist N Turns as a student at the New Town branch. Her goal was Hip Hop — a form far from her classical roots, and exactly the contrast she was looking for.
Under the guidance of Ashish Sir, she discovered something she had not expected: Hip Hop made sense to her. The rhythmic precision, the physical commitment, the energy of the room — it connected to the same things that classical training had built, but in a completely different idiom.
By 2023, the studio recognised what was already obvious to everyone in the class: Srijeeta was ready to teach. She joined the instructor team, bringing both her classical depth and her newly developed Hip Hop vocabulary to students across Salt Lake, Dum Dum Park, and Ruby.
On the Floor — Teaching at TNT
Srijeeta’s classes sit at the meeting point of technical discipline and personal expression. In Bharatanatyam, she teaches the classical vocabulary while pushing students to connect with the stories each form is designed to tell. In Kids Hip Hop, she channels the same instinct for structure into something that works for young movers — building coordination, confidence, and a genuine love of music through movement.
She is known for being present in the room — giving individual feedback without disrupting the group, adjusting the energy of a class to match who is there, and creating an environment where students feel encouraged rather than judged.
