If you are a skilled dancer who has been teaching on the side — at a community centre, a rented hall, someone’s rooftop — and you are tired of chasing payments and undercharging what your craft is actually worth, this page is for you.
Twist N Turns has been running professional dance studios in Kolkata since 2005. We currently operate 8 locations, work with 100+ certified faculty, and have trained more than 20,000 students across every dance form you can name. We are not a passion project. We are a serious employer — and we are hiring.

Why TNT is a different kind of employer
Most dance studios in Kolkata pay instructors one of two ways: a flat monthly retainer regardless of how many batches you run, or a per-student revenue share that cuts your income the moment one student drops out. Neither model is fair to a skilled, reliable teacher.
Twist N Turns pays hourly. Every batch you teach is logged and paid at your contracted rate — transparently, monthly, with no games. Teach more batches, earn more. Your income is tied to your effort, not to arbitrary studio politics.
That is only the start of what makes teaching here different:
- Your batches fill quickly. TNT students and parents have trusted this brand for two decades. When you join, you are not starting from scratch — your classes are scheduled into an existing demand flow. Many new instructors fill their first batch within a week of being placed.
- Professional infrastructure. Sprung wooden floors. Full-wall mirrors. Proper sound systems. Climate-controlled rooms. Changing areas and parent waiting spaces. You teach in a space designed for dance — not a multi-purpose hall with a portable speaker.
- 8 studios across Kolkata. Salt Lake, Ballygunge, Dum Dum Park, Ruby, New Alipore, New Town AA1, New Town AA2, and Madhyamgram. You are placed at the studio nearest to you, with the option to pick up additional batches at sister studios.
- A real faculty community. Work alongside 100+ colleagues — Ballet teachers, Kathak gurus, Hip Hop choreographers, Zumba ZIN instructors, fitness specialists. You are not teaching in isolation. You are part of a professional network where serious dance practitioners meet every day.
- Visibility and growth. TNT recitals, workshops, and social media channels regularly feature our faculty. Your teaching builds a real professional profile — publicly, not just inside the studio walls.
- No commission deductions, no hidden conditions, no delayed payments.

Who we are currently looking for
Demand for quality dance education in Kolkata is high across every category. These are the forms where we have the most consistent and urgent need:
| Category | Forms in demand |
|---|---|
| Classical Indian | Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi |
| Western | Ballet (RAD/ISTD preferred), Jazz, Contemporary |
| Urban | Hip Hop, Breaking, Locking, Popping, Commercial |
| Latin & Social | Salsa, Bachata, Couple Dance |
| Bollywood & Fusion | Bollywood, Belly Dance, Semi-classical |
| Fitness | Zumba (ZIN certified), HIIT, Yoga, Pilates |
| Foundation | Creative Movement for 3–5 year olds |
If you specialise in a form not listed here and believe there is genuine student demand for it in Kolkata, apply anyway. We consider every serious application.

What TNT looks for in an instructor
We do not hire generalists. Knowing six forms to a mediocre level is far less valuable than mastering one to a level where students stay, improve, and bring their friends.
Here is what we actually look for:
- Genuine expertise in a specific form. Recognised certification (RAD, ISTD, ZIN, Vishwa Kala Bharati, etc.), a dance degree, guru-shishya lineage, or a documented performance and competition history. We need to see that you are the real thing in your form.
- Teaching ability. Technical mastery and the ability to teach are not the same skill. We look for instructors who can break down complex movement into logical steps for beginners, manage mixed-age groups, and keep a batch energised across a 60-minute class, week after week.
- Reliability above almost everything. TNT runs on school-calendar semesters. Students and parents plan their week around your slot. If you commit to a batch, twenty families are depending on you to show up. We take this seriously — and so should you.
- Performance background. Choreographers, stage artists, and competitive dancers bring something to a class that purely academic instructors cannot — a sense of what it actually feels like to perform. Students notice.
- Cultural fit. Inclusive, encouraging, patient, and punctual. We work with students from age 3 to 60+. You need to be comfortable and consistently professional across all of them.
- Specialisation over breadth. Go deep in one form first. We will build your batch schedule around your specific expertise. A second form can come later once you are established.
Classical and fitness instructors: a special note
Classical dance gurus — Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi — are among the hardest categories for us to fill and command our highest rates. If you have had formal guru-shishya training, years of stage performance, and even a handful of students you have taught, we want to hear from you.
The same applies to certified fitness instructors. Zumba ZIN, HIIT, Yoga RYT 200+, and Pilates instructor certifications are all strong routes in. Demand for structured fitness dance across our 8 studios has grown significantly and fitness batches are consistently among our best-attended.

How to build toward a teaching role at TNT
If you are working toward an application and not quite ready yet, here is what separates shortlisted candidates from the rest:
- Formal training. A recognised certification, a dance school diploma, or documented years under a guru. Self-taught talent is real, but it is harder to verify and harder to teach from systematically.
- A performance reel. Two or three clean videos showing your technique, stage presence, and range within your form. A 90-second clip filmed well in a studio is more convincing than ten years of informal teaching with no documentation.
- Some teaching hours. Community classes, school workshops, private students — anything that shows you can stand in front of a group and guide them through material they did not already know.
- A social media presence. Even a modest Instagram or YouTube presence signals that you take your craft seriously in public. It also demonstrates that you can draw students on your own.
- A clear specialisation. Go deep in one form before widening. When we place you, we place you as a specialist.
We have inducted teachers fresh out of classical gurukuls who had never formally stood at the front of a class. We have also brought in internationally-trained performers with twenty years of stage experience. The common thread in every successful hire is seriousness about their form and a genuine desire to pass it on.
The application process
- Fill in the online application form — takes under 3 minutes and goes directly to the hiring team.
- Or email your CV to tapas@twistnturns.in with subject line “Instructorship Job”. Attach or link your performance videos, certifications, and a short note on which form(s) you teach and where in Kolkata you are based.
- We review every application within 2–3 working days. If it is not a match right now, we tell you clearly.
- Shortlisted candidates are invited to a practical assessment — a short performance piece in your form, a sample class with a live or mock batch, and a conversation with the academic team. This is not an audition in the nerve-wracking sense. We are trying to understand how you teach and whether you fit our culture.
- Offer and onboarding. Successful candidates receive a contract, a rate card, a studio placement, and a short orientation covering TNT class structure, student communication norms, attendance standards, and safety protocols.
Compensation
- Hourly pay, disbursed monthly. No revenue share. No per-student deductions. No surprises.
- Your rate is set by your form, your verifiable certifications, your years of teaching experience, and the level and age group of the batches you handle.
- Classical gurus and internationally certified instructors command our highest rates.
- Incentives are available for faculty who take on student examinations, guest workshops, or recital choreography beyond their regular batch schedule.
- Contractual and transparent. You see exactly what you will be paid before you accept. Everything is in writing.
Teaching dance in Kolkata should be a sustainable profession. At TNT, it is.
A word from the founder
“Dance teachers in Kolkata are some of the most skilled professionals I have met — and consistently among the most underpaid. TNT was built, in part, to change that. If you are serious about your form and serious about being paid what your skill is actually worth, send your CV. The opportunity here is real. The respect is real. And the pay is real.” — Tapash Das, Founder & Director, Twist N Turns
