Gourab’s Story
For Gourab Dey, dance is not something he discovered — it found him. The moment he joined a college crew called Danger Radiation, something locked into place. What had been a background love for Hip Hop became an all-in commitment: long rehearsal sessions, pushing each other to hit harder, move cleaner, and perform with everything they had.
That crew gave him his foundation. What came next gave him his reputation.
As a solo dancer, Gourab went on to represent two of India’s better-known Hip Hop collectives — Hip-hop Indians and Caper Maniac Crew. Together they competed across festivals and championships, picking up titles and building the kind of competitive experience that shapes how you see and teach movement.
The high point came in 2019 at the Indian Hip Hop Dance Championship (IHHDC), where Gourab and his crew represented Kolkata on a national stage against some of the best crews in the country. They finished in the national Top 8 — a result that validated everything they had poured into the art form.
On the Floor — Teaching Hip Hop at Twist N Turns
At Twist N Turns, Gourab brings that competitive background into a teaching environment that works for students of every level, from first-time movers to dancers who have been at it for years.
His classes are structured but not rigid. He breaks down the mechanics — footwork, isolations, timing, groove — and then puts them into combinations that feel alive rather than like drills. The goal is always the same: make the technique so natural that students stop thinking about it and start feeling it.
What students consistently mention is his eye. He spots the moment someone’s count is off or their weight is in the wrong place, and he fixes it without breaking the energy of the class. That attention to the room — and to the individual — is what keeps his batches full and his regulars returning term after term.
He also teaches Bollyhop, the Bollywood-Hip Hop fusion that brings together the best of both worlds — the big crowd energy of Bollywood and the rhythmic precision of Hip Hop. His Bollyhop batches at Salt Lake are some of the most popular on the timetable.
